Talk/Individual Therapy
Individual therapy, sometimes called talk therapy, is a collaborative one-on-one process that creates space for healing, growth, and self-understanding. At its heart, it is a relational approach rooted in the belief that being truly seen and heard is not only therapeutic, it’s transformative.
When we face anxiety, grief, shame, or identity confusion, our nervous system often shifts into survival mode. We might shut down, over-function, isolate, or numb. Talk therapy gently helps us slow down, connect the dots, and uncover what’s beneath the surface. It is a space to lay down the mask and explore the deeper layers of your story in a safe, nonjudgmental environment.
In sessions, we might explore thought patterns, relational dynamics, past experiences, or core beliefs that are shaping your present. Over time, this process helps you build self-awareness, strengthen emotional resilience, and move toward wholeness.
Therapy draws from evidence-based approaches like:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to explore the connection between thoughts, emotions, and behaviors
Internal Family Systems (IFS/parts work) to gently engage wounded or protective parts of self
Attachment theory to understand how early relationships impact present ones
Person-centered therapy to hold space for your story with unconditional positive regard
Whether you're carrying the weight of a past wound or simply trying to find clarity in the present, talk therapy provides a space to explore and be encountered.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a trauma-focused, neurological treatment designed to help the brain and body heal from painful or distressing experiences. When we experience trauma, the nervous system often becomes overwhelmed, and instead of processing the event as a completed memory, the brain stores it as if it’s still happening. This can leave us feeling stuck—emotionally, physically, and mentally—long after the actual danger has passed.
EMDR helps the brain do what it was naturally designed to do: heal.
At the core of EMDR is bilateral stimulation, which often involves guided eye movements, tapping, or auditory tones that activate both hemispheres of the brain. This rhythmic, left-right pattern mimics the natural processing that occurs during REM sleep. As clients recall distressing memories while engaging in bilateral stimulation, the brain begins to “reprocess” these memories, reducing their emotional intensity and allowing them to be stored in a more adaptive, integrated way.
Over time, EMDR helps rewire the brain’s response to trauma, creating new neural pathways that are grounded in safety, clarity, and empowerment rather than fear, confusion, or shame.
EMDR can be especially effective for individuals who feel stuck in trauma, anxiety, grief, or low self-worth, when talk therapy alone hasn’t been enough. It is a powerful, research-backed approach to moving beyond survival mode and into lasting healing.
Faith-Integrated Counseling
Faith-integrated therapy at Corbella falls under the broader realm of individual talk therapy. Like all one-on-one sessions, it offers a space for deep emotional processing, self-reflection, and healing, but with a more intentional emphasis on integrating the wisdom and practices of the Christian faith.
We believe that true healing must engage the whole person: mind, body, and soul. While suffering is an inevitable part of the human experience, it doesn’t have to be meaningless. In fact, it’s often in the heart of suffering that the deepest transformation occurs. As Viktor Frankl wrote,
“In some ways suffering ceases to be suffering at the moment it finds a meaning.”
At Corbella, all therapy is shaped by Catholic-Christian values and the inherent dignity of the human person. But faith-integrated therapy takes this further, incorporating practices such as prayer, Scripture reflection, spiritual discernment, and healing prayers, depending on the client’s comfort and needs. It is rooted in the belief that Christ is the true source of healing and that He often works through the vessels of therapy, relationship, and grace-filled presence.
This is not about spiritualizing pain or bypassing emotional work. It’s about honoring the fullness of the human experience and creating space for Christ to meet us in our most wounded places. Faith-integrated therapy allows clients to bring their grief, shame, doubt, and hope into the therapeutic space without having to compartmentalize or hold back.
As Saint John Paul II reminds us,
“The human person is a unity of body and soul, and only by considering both can we come to understand who we truly are.”
If you’re longing for therapy that speaks to both your psychological needs and your spiritual life, faith-integrated therapy offers a place to be seen, supported, and restored. Through compassionate presence and Christ-centered care, this work opens a path not just toward relief—but toward meaning, purpose, and communion.
